Our Mission
The burden of financial expense stands in the way of potential living organ donors volunteering to save the lives of those in need. Benevolent donors, especially altruistic individuals who may not have any relation or personal connection to a potential patient match requiring a life-dependent organ, often ultimately, and regrettably decline due to job loss, travel and living expense, cost of medication not covered, cost of insurance and other significant road blocks to giving. Sadly, this stands in the way even though a donor may be otherwise emotionally, physically, even spiritually ready to step forward.
It is well known that in the United States it is illegal to offer money or any other valuable goods and/or services in order to influence the procurement of a living organ. In other nations, such restrictions do not exist.
Here in the United States, these laws are real and enforced. Knowledge of an arrangement of organ for payment will nullify surgery. While there are numerous foundations existing to help in the organ donation process, the specific and direct goal and purpose of Life Savers Foundation is to provide for transportation and housing, and other expenses including providing lost wages for a donor during the process of “giving” and following the recovery period.
On January 19, 2023 the Foundation officially launched with a dinner gala held at Balboa Bay Resort, Newport Beach, California underwritten by Carole Pickup and the Pickup family. The first organ grants will be bestowed in 2023. The fund is based in Orange County, California initially serving donors and benefactors in Southern California dealing specifically with cases involving transplant centers in the region including (but not limited to);
Cedars Sinai Hospital, Los Angeles
UCLA Hospital, Los Angeles
St. Joseph Hospital, Orange
Scripps Hospital, La Jolla
Sharp Memorial Hospital San Diego
Keck Medicine of USC
UCI Med Center
